This set of two vintage rustic wooden chairs is designed in the French Provincial style. Each side chair features a triple ladder back composed of three wavy, scalloped horizontal slats set between serpentine uprights. The seats are constructed of natural woven straw in a traditional four-triangle envelope pattern. The chairs are supported by front cabriole legs terminating in pad feet and square-sectioned raked rear legs, all connected by a box stretcher assembly. The front rail features a decoratively scalloped apron. Construction details include visible mortise and tenon joinery and square-head bolts securing the front legs to the seat frame.
A stamped mark reading MADE IN ITALY is located on the inside face of one rear leg. The wood is finished in a dark, warm-toned stain that highlights the natural grain.
